COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Why do we have to register so early?
A. A great deal of time and effort goes into assigning teams and ensuring that we have enough coaches. We also have to order uniforms, coordinate practice times with field availability, complete background checks, submit team rosters to MYSA and finalize game schedules.

Q. If practices are canceled due to weather, will you reschedule?
A. Competitive coaches will do their best to reschedule games and practices. Rec practices will not be made up. We keep the cost of the Rec Program low partly for this reason. We also feel it is best to be done before the 4th of July holiday because families and coaches get busy with other activities, family vacations and back to school.

Q. How will I know if practice cancels?
A. We do our best to make weather-related calls by 3 pm on the day of practice; however, if bad weather is predicted but has not started, we will delay canceling as long as possible. To avoid missing these notices, it is very important to download the PlayMetrics app and turn on notifications. Competitive coaches will communicate with their teams regarding weather.

Q. How many volunteer hours do I need to complete?
A. Volunteer hours are assigned by one-half or one credit. 1-3 hours = 1/2 credit, 3-6 hours = 1 credit. Each family is required to complete one volunteer credit.

Q. How will I be able to get my volunteer hours done?
A. Volunteer opportunities will be posted in PlayMetrics as they become available. Since we do not have a tournament or a concession stand, and our seasons depend so much on the weather, it is hard to plan for these opportunities too far in advance. Being a board member, coach, assistant coach and team parent fulfills your credit so consider one of these spots! We are always looking for help! The volunteer year is January 1 thru December 31, so it is ok if you do not have your hours completed when your season ends. More volunteer information is posted on our website under the Volunteer Info tab.

Q. I registered my child for competitive soccer and paid for the uniform kit, but was not able to select a size.
A. Uniforms have not been finalized but we wanted parents to be able to pay for them with their registration. You will have an opportunity to select a size once they are available.

SCHOOL SOCCER VS CLUB SOCCER

Birth Years: 2011 & UP

If your child attends New Ulm Middle School or New Ulm Area Catholic Schools, and they are entering 7th or 8th grade in fall, they will be eligible for school soccer at New Ulm Public. Varsity, JV and C-Squad all practice together at the NUHS practice fields on North Highland, or at NUHS Stadium.

MVL students entering 9th-12th grades in fall are also eligible to play at New Ulm High School.

If your child attends St. Paul's School and is entering 7th or 8th grade in fall, they will play on St. Paul's Middle School team. I apologize because I am not familiar with their registration process, so please go by whatever information your school sends you.

New Ulm Public typically opens their registration at the end of July or early August. A sports physical within the last three years is required to register. When you schedule that appointment, make sure you specify it is a sports physical as they are different than an annual physical.

Cathedral and MVL students, I believe you will register through your school activities registration process.

New Ulm Public: There is a Parent-Athlete-Coach Meeting scheduled at NUHS on Monday, August 5. The first day of practice will be August 12.

Players can do both school and club soccer. School soccer takes priority and club soccer supports that. Club soccer only has teams up to U13 in the fall and registration goes by birth year, which means your player could be birth year 2011 entering 7th grade and not qualify for club soccer, but another player could be birth year 2012 entering 7th grade and they do qualify for club soccer.
