O U R C O A C H E S
Matt Hinkle, U18 Girls
WHAT IS ONE LIFE LESSON YOU HOPE YOUR PLAYERS TAKE AWAY FROM THE SEASON?
They learn how to lead. Not just the captains, but every player. There are 100s of moments in every game, that if a player can give direction to others it will lead to success. When you stack those moments on top of each other, players find their voice and their confidence.
DO YOU HAVE ANY GAME-DAY SUPERSTITIONS?
Not really, but for whatever reason, I like coaching games either in flipflops or barefoot.
WHO WAS THE COACH THAT INFLUENCED YOU AND WHY?
Don Krusemark, my high school wrestling coach. You wanted to win for him and his excitement for you, more than you did for yourself.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF & YOUR FAMILY.
We have become a soccer family over time. Currently all three of our girls are playing on three different competitive teams this year. This is a cry for help. JK.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO COACHING?
I started coaching when my oldest daughter started playing in Rec. Soccer was something that I grew up playing and I thought it was something that my daughter and I could bond over. Now she is going into her Junior year and I have coached her and her friends since they were 5.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DRILL?
Small-sided games 3v3 or 5v5. The more touches on the ball.
