Soccer Camps & Clinics

Winter Soccer Rec and Classic Clinics

New Ulm United Soccer will be hosting soccer basics and soccer skills clinics the winter. These clinics will be led by Clay Merches (Youth Coaching License, the “D” National Coaching License, and ODP, (Olympic Developmental Program) coach for the state of MN. He has been coaching all levels of youth soccer for 15 years and was the assistant coach for the Mankato WPSL team, (Women Premier Soccer League), last year. He has played soccer for 35 years and was an “All American” player in high school and was offered player positions for LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire when he graduated high school) and Miranda Famestad (played D2 soccer at Bemidiji State, was on the club team in Sweden for a season, Train like a Girl trainer in Utah, coached Mankato East soccer and has college and grassroots coaching certifications).

All clinics are held at the New Ulm Rec Center on courts 2-3 in the gym area.

REC PARENT COACHING CLINICS and REC PLAYER SKILLS CLINICS (Jan 5th 4-6pm, Jan 26th 2-4pm, March 1st 2-4pm): an hour long clinic for parents who want to learn about soccer, who are considering coaching, or who would like to expand on their coaching skills. Adults volunteering as REC COACHES are strongly recommended to attend the clinics. Rec coed players of all ages are also encouraged to attend the parent coaching clinic to learn new skills and to participate in coaching demonstrations for the parent coaches and then stay for an hour long REC SKILLS CLINIC after the coaching clinic. This hour would focus on skills/drills for the first 40 minutes followed by scrimmaging for the last 20 minutes. The clinic will be led by Clay Merches. These clinics are free to all registered REC parents and players.

 

CLASSIC PARENT COACHING CLINICS and GIRLS CLASSIC SKILLS CLINICS (Jan 19th 2-4pm, Feb 23rd 2-4pm, March 8th 2-4pm): an hour long clinic for parents who want to learn about soccer, who are considering coaching, or who would like to expand on their coaching skills. This course will focus on the older, more competitive classic level. Adults who are volunteering as CLASSIC COACHES are strongly recommended to attend the clinics. Female classic players are encourage to attend the parent coaching clinic to learn new skills and to participate in coaching demonstrations for the parent coaches and then stay for an hour long CLASSIC SKILLS CLINIC after the coaching clinic. This hour would focus on skills/drills for the first 40 minutes followed by scrimmaging for the last 20 minutes. Depending on numbers and ages of players present, the group may be split into U11-U14 and U15+. The clinics will be led by Clay Merches. These clinics are free to all registered CLASSIC parents and players.

 

BOYS CLASSIC SKILLS CLINICS (Jan 19, 2-4pm, Feb 23, 2-4pm & March 8th 2-4pm): during the first hour a skills clinic will be conducted by Miranda Famestad, followed by an hour of scrimmaging led by John Brownfield. Depending upon numbers and the ages of the players present, the group may be split into U11-U14 and U15+. These clinics are free to all registered CLASSIC players.

GIRLS CLASSIC SKILLS CLINICS (Jan 5th 4-5pm, Jan 26th 2-3pm, March 1st 2-3pm):  a skills clinic will be conducted by Miranda Famestad (credentials). Depending upon numbers and the ages of the players present, the group may be split into U11-U14 and U15+.  These clinics are free to all registered CLASSIC players.

COERVER SOCCER CAMP
We are encouraging our U10 through U17 players to attend the Coerver Soccer camp we are hosting at the MLC soccer complex.

Dates: June 2020

Cost: $150

Camp activities include...

•    Fun game to warm-up and loosen up
•    Ball Mastery exercises – juggling, fast footwork, speed dribbling, cutting
•    Moves to beat opponent – “Move of the Day”
•    1 v 1 and 2 v 2 competition
•    Small Group Activity – passing, receiving, shooting, crossing, etc…
•    Small Sided Games in a World Cup Tournament format…
•    Each Player gets a T-Shirt and Camp Certificate.
•    Sportsmanship – Fair Play – great daily effort – purposeful practice – healthy competition – fun – are all key principals that are reinforced in our Day Camps
