MLC Upgrades Soccer Complex

Martin Luther College owns and provides the land used by our soccer association -- and we are very grateful for their decade long support of our community youth soccer program! This year the college has begun a field construction program to upgrade its own soccer game field.

Land near the Boetger parking area is in the process of being developed into a premier soccer venue for MLC's Men's and Women's soccer programs.  The field was excavated and about 18 inches of top soil and clay were removed. A special mix of 85% sand and 15% peat and other soils were installed and seeded in grass.  While the grass grows in and the soil settles, the field will remain unused -- with the expectation of play starting in the fall of 2009.  The field is constructed to withstand about 40 games during the Fall season.

The fenced in field will also feature storage, concession and restroom facilities.  These facilities are designed in such a way that they can be used by the college for their home games, but can also be used by the soccer association during its summer and fall seasons and tournaments.

High school soccer in New Ulm will benefit from this project in a couple of ways.  Some of the HS games may be played on the premier field, depending upon the condition of the field during the Fall college soccer season.  However, the former college game field will also become available for High School games -- and this will provide the high school program with a fine venue.

Concession Stand at our Soccer Fields

The NUAYSA Board will continue to have a concession up and running at our field complex for the 2008 season.  We hope to have the stand open whenever soccer games and practices are scheduled.  This could be a helpful source of income for our Association and would call upon the volunteer service of our parents, players and supporters.

NUAYSA Selects "New Ulm Sun"
as Team Name & Logo

Our Club colors have long been yellow and black but we have never had a name or a logo to go along with them.  Now we do!  The Board gave its approval to designating our team name as the New Ulm Sun.  We envision any number of individual age group spin-offs on this thematic Club name.  How about the Sun-Beams, the Sun-Rays or the Sun-Shine?  Or perhaps a team might call themselves the Flares ... or the Eclipse...perhaps even the Burn?

New uniforms for all age and skill levels will be part of the program this spring and will utilize the new logos developed in keeping with our theme.  You'll find the two logos below.  The intention is to base home and away uniforms on these two contrasting color schemes.  Very Cool !
