NUAYSA Brief History New Ulm Area Youth Soccer Association was founded in 1997 and we got our tax-exempt status in 1998. We started with 50 kids on three teams and are holding steady at around 300 spring/summer participants, with 50 or so additional kids in the fall. Our objective has always been simple: bring the opportunity to play (organized) soccer to the New Ulm area. We were initially only involved in Rec and Rec Plus play and expanded into Classic/Competitive 3-4 years ago. We have finally succeeded in bringing the sport to the public high school as a varsity sport beginning Fall, 2006; the kicker is that our club will be paying for it 100%, which will give us some fresh challenges! NUAYSA serves the New Ulm area, including towns as far away as Sleepy Eye, Courtland and Nicollet and Fairfax. We were a founding partner in the Southern Minnesota Soccer Alliance, a group of clubs from Le Seur, Waseca, Mankato, St. Peter, Fairmont, Sherburne, Madelia, Marshall, Worthington, Glencoe, Hutchinson and others. That group morphed into the South West District of MYSA last year and we had a successful and satisfying first year of league play in 2005. We owe a huge load of thanks to Dave Carter of the NW District for helping us get started as a rural district! Despite New Ulm's small size (~14,000), we have three independent school systems operating here: New Ulm Public (ISD 88), which will host the new HS team; New Ulm Area Catholic Schools (NUACS); and Minnesoata Valley Lutheran (MVL), a regional high school run by the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), which also operates the Martin Luther College (MLC) here in New Ulm. Kids from all of these schools have always participated in our club play and are also welcome to be part of our club-sponsored high school team. In the fall of 2007 NUAYSA began a cooperative effort with the local school district and offered a varsity boys and girls soccer program with players from New Ulm Public, Cathedral and Minnesota Valley Lutheran High Schools. Our teams played well and ended the first year successfully.
